Popularity of Weekend Travel Grows: Half of all U.S. adults take at least one weekend trip per year, according to a recent TIA Travel Poll. That's almost 103 million adults who find themselves on the road for at least a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night stay. Almost 30 percent of Americans have taken five or more weekend trips in the past year and 35 percent say they've taken their children with them during weekend travel. The trend toward day trips and weekend travel over more traditional trips of a week or longer continues, with 40 percent of weekend leisure travelers saying they're taking more day trips and 38 percent saying they're taking more weekend trips today than five years ago.
