“Although this is my high season, I want to take a minute to thank you for the great support you have given, especially with the online reservations. You gave me a great piece of advice by recommending at that time - just before my high season - that I extend my online reservation listings throughout the summer. If I had a last-minute cancellation it would only take seconds to make that room available for online reservations. I took your advice. I find it especially helpful for the ‘odd’ one night availability in the middle of the week. When I see that I have one of those odd nights, I make that room available on the online reservations; most of the time I get a reservation for that room. My vacancy sign is collecting dust in the closet this season thanks to the online reservation program!” – Karen Morella, Serendipity Bed and Breakfast, Ocean City, NJ

Announcements from BedandBreakfast.com
Thank you for participating in BedandBreakfast.com Online Reservations! We'd like to share some recent updates. This program has been in operation for two and a half years, and over 1,100 BedandBreakfast.com members are capturing the extra business and exposure this program has been designed to provide.

First, our partnerships with Expedia, hotels.com, SideStep.com and Kayak.com are generating substantially more reservations for you. We experienced a nearly 800% increase in room nights booked in June, July and August of 2007 over the same period in 2006. We look forward to maintaining and growing these relationships as well as expanding our reach for B&Bs by establishing more partnerships with additional industry-leading online travel providers.

Second, over the past month and a half, we've been migrating properties to a faster and more accurate connection with Expedia and hotels.com. The new connection provides quicker updates between our system and theirs, and reduces the potential for error while bringing you a better, more reliable service.

We hope you have enjoyed a prosperous summer season full of new guests, new friends, and lasting memories! Now that fall is here and winter is around the corner, don't forget to load your unsold rooms into the BedandBreakfast.com Online Reservations system. Expedia, hotels.com, SideStep.com, Kayak.com and BedandBreakfast.com will all do their best to help you fill your vacancies. Remember, there is zero cost unless we sell a room that may otherwise have been empty.

Adding more rates and room availability is easy! Just take five minutes to log in and enter your rates and inventory into the Online Reservations Manager by following these simple steps:

  1. Log into your Home Base, then click the green Online Reservations Manager button.

  2. Scroll over the Rates/Availability tab and from the dropdown menu, click the room type you want to add to.

  3. Click on the Add/Edit Range button; always click Set New, even if you're entering the same rate you previously had. Make sure that when you're entering your rate, you click on the blue calculator button to enter it. This will calculate your Net Rate for you.

  4. Availability: Always click Set New here as well, even if you're entering the same number as before. Please enter the number of rooms of this type that are available. Set any min/max stays you may have, and choose a date range for the change. If you only want to enter these rates for the weekdays, make sure to uncheck the weekends, and vice versa.

  5. Last, click on the Save Changes button; then remember to blackout any dates that are currently booked to avoid any potential double bookings.

It's that easy! If you have any questions or need assistance loading more inventory, please let us know. We are happy to help you load more room inventory right over the phone. Call us Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST at 800-462-2632 extension 4.

Trends in Online Reservations

hotels.com adds 1,000th B&B to its property selection: hotels.com now features 1,000 bed and breakfast properties in its extensive portfolio of lodging accommodations. The company has increased its bed and breakfast selection in recent years and plans to continue adding properties based on growing demand from travelers seeking out the unique and distinct experiences offered by this type of specialty lodging. To search the full selection of bed and breakfast properties, visit hotels.com and click on the "Condos, B&B" tab on the home page.
BedandBreakfast.com is the sole provider of B&B content for hotels.com and Expedia.com.

Innkeepers say revenue is up: The PAII Summer Business Survey reports that of innkeepers who responded to the survey, 77% said their B&B revenues were up this year. 33.6% attribute the increase to more traffic from online directories, and the same amount say it's because of an online reservations service.

Weekend travel up and booked online:
“A study by online travel tracker PhoCusWright found that 84% of leisure travelers this year took or plan to take at least one long weekend trip. The rise of long weekend vacations can be good news for online travel providers. According to the annual study by PhoCusWright, weekend travelers spend $6 of every $10 on travel websites, vs. just $3 of every $10 for those taking vacations of a week or longer. PhoCusWright did phone interviews with 500 online travel shoppers.

“Travel Web sites such as Kayak, Orbitz and Expedia offer services for the weekenders. Frequent travelers who take short trips are getting used to using online services as a quick and efficient way to book weekend travel, observers say.”

Canada’s online travelers shop differently:
“A new report from PhoCusWright Inc. reveals that almost one third of all travel in Canada will be booked online this year (leisure and unmanaged business), but with a highly consolidated air market and fragmented hotel and car rental markets, Canada’s online travelers shop and buy travel very differently than their U.S. counterparts.

PhoCusWright’s Canadian Online Travel Overview finds online travel in Canada gaining momentum. The Canadian leisure and unmanaged business travel market has more than doubled in two years to reach C$6.5 billion in 2006, and is projected to nearly double again by 2009. The Internet is playing an increasingly significant role in both influencing consumer shopping and as a source of transactions, PhoCusWright concludes.”

washingtonpost.com launches business travel section: “washingtonpost.com launched of its new Business Travel section featuring original content aimed at frequent flyers from The Washington Post, along with content from Conde Nast’s Portfolio magazine. The new section, which complements the current Travel section, provides research tools and information to benefit and prepare business travelers before, during and after the trip. In addition to content aimed at business travelers, the new section features travel search powered by Sidestep, as well as a WiFi locator that searches for hotspots worldwide.”
Inns that participate in BedandBreakfast.com Online Reservations are bookable through Sidestep.com.
