Promoting the Industry

One of the best ways to promote your property is to attract media and consumer attention with inviting seasonal promotions. And the easiest place to publicize them is on our Special Deals page. Here's how:

Here's the free deal for Silver members and up:

  • Log in with your property ID and password, then click the "specials" link on the left-hand side of the page.
  • Under "Special Summary," click the theme of your choice (see below) and combine a promotional rate with whatever tempting treats or special event tickets your guests might enjoy--it's up to you.
  • Remember that creative offerings are more likely to attract media attention -- they make a better story.
  • To see the specials that have already been posted by your fellow innkeepers, visit our Specials page and click the drop down box marked "Select Special."

Spring Tea Parties

Primrose Inn, Bar Harbor, ME
Primrose Inn, Bar Harbor, ME
Pamela Parker, of Bar Harbor's Primrose Inn, wrote to tell us about the Bar Harbor B&B Association's Spring B&B Tea and Tours on May 11, including tea and treats at nine area B&Bs. Ticket proceeds benefit the local food pantry.

Are you thinking: "Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the publicity is?" If so, join our Spring Tea Party PR campaign! It's free!

Do you and/or your area B&Bs sponsor a similar event? If so, send the details to InnkeeperNews@BedandBreakfast.com, so we can help you publicize it. Be sure to include a website address where we can find more information.

In addition, please post a spring tea party special for your property onto the BedandBreakfast.com site (see above for details). It doesn't have to be an elaborate package-just include the cost of the tea and/or tour into your weekend rates, and perhaps a set of your mugs to bring home as a souvenir. Mother's Day makes a perfect focal point for this promotion.

Our PR agency will be sharing this concept with newspaper food and lifestyle editors, so we also need a few great teatime recipes. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Select one or two (no more, please) favorite teatime recipes. They need to be easy-to-make, from scratch, with no exotic ingredients. Please proofread the ingredients and quantities carefully.
  2. Email the recipes to InnkeeperNews@BedandBreakfast.com, along with the information on your spring tea party promotion (see above).
  3. Logon with your property ID and password, and post the recipes onto our site, in the dessert section, under "Tea selections," and/or another appropriate heading. While you're in the foodie mood, take a few minutes to post a few other most requested recipes, perhaps your favorite pancake, waffle, French toast, or strata recipe.

We plan to include some of these spring tours in the April/May issue of the BedandBreakfast.com Report. Click to see our similar article on Christmas open houses.

Cosmopolitan In their October "to-do list," Cosmo's nearly nine million readers were told: "Take advantage of the long [Columbus Day] weekend by shacking up in a bed-and-breakfast with your beau. Do make sure you have a private bathroom. And don't forget the essentials: a sexy new nightgown, a sultry CD, and a bottle of merlot. To find a B&B with a fireplace or other must-have features, click on www.BedandBreakfast.com." October, 2001

The certificate was for $50 and I booked $320 of business from of it -- well worth the $5 commission!" Lynn Carlson, 1900 Inn on Montford, Asheville, NC
