Promoting the Industry

One of the best ways to promote your property is to attract media and consumer attention with inviting seasonal promotions. And the easiest place to publicize them is on our Special Deals page. Here's how:

Here's the free deal for Silver members and up:

  • Log in with your property ID and password, then click the "specials" link on the left-hand side of the page.
  • Under "Special Summary," click the theme of your choice (see below) and combine a promotional rate with whatever tempting treats or special event tickets your guests might enjoy--it's up to you.
  • Remember that creative offerings are more likely to attract media attention -- they make a better story.
  • To see the specials that have already been posted by your fellow innkeepers, visit our Specials page and click the drop down box marked "Select Special."

Bronze member??? Don't miss out on these specials. Try our 100 percent risk-free upgrade guarantee.

Fantastic Fly Fishing

Is there a rushing mountain stream, stocked pond, or other body of water near your property that would attract fishermen? If you are a fishing guide, or have a buddy who is, post some fishing specials under the Fantastic Fly Fishing heading. We’re looking to add specials to attract travel writers who had it with the frilly frou-frou circuit! In addition to posting your special on our website, please email details to InnkeeperNews@BedandBreakfast.com.

Planning Ahead for Fall and Winter!

Magazines have long lead times, and now is the time to start planning for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day promotions. Here’s what you can do:

  • Recipes: Post some of your best holiday recipes on BedandBreakfast.com, so we can start preparing the holiday PR campaigns. Please keep in mind that food editors usually look for easy-to-prepare recipes made from fresh, healthy ingredients that are readily available. When posting a recipe, please proofread carefully, and capitalize only proper names.
  • Christmas tours: We will again be featuring holiday open house tours this year (click to see last year’s article), so please tell us about upcoming plans in your community, especially B&B tours.
  • Valentine’s Day: The media is always hungry for romantic pieces in February, and we are going to be promoting the best places to Seduce your Significant Other. Please nominate yourself. We’ll need some great stories to enhance your romantic amenities, since that’s the best way to get some ink. Do you have any entertaining “Pop the Question” anecdotes? Elopements? Surprise romance getaways, where one spouse “kidnaps” the other to a special escape? Make sure your nomination includes a story about why you’re the best place to seduce or be seduced. Tell it all to Marti.Mayne@BedandBreakfast.com.

Publicity Leads

As a new service to our members, BedandBreakfast.com will be alerting you as we learn about upcoming publicity leads.

Watch for emails with this subject line: “Urgent: Publicity Lead from BedandBreakfast.com.” Depending on the assignment, these leads will be distributed to inns in a specific region or more widely.

For example, if we learn of an editor who has assigned a story on the wine harvest in California’s Napa and Sonoma wine country, the Publicity Lead will just go to B&Bs in that region, although Marti will be sure to mention the many other wine-growing areas with great country inns. A more wide-ranging lead might read like this:
ASSIGNMENT: For a feature in an extremely upscale magazine, need to hear as soon as possible about Christmas boat parades and/or other holiday events tied to the water. Let me know about pix, too.

Key response criteria: For maximum results, please follow the guidelines below.

  1. Timely response: Don’t wait for the deadline. Email Marti.Mayne@BedandBreakfast.com today.

  2. Appropriate response: Please respond only when your B&B meets the criteria requested.

  3. Need to edit: We reserve the write to edit what you send us.

  4. Signature file, please! Be sure that your email to us includes your name, your inn’s name, the email and postal address, of course, your URL.

  5. Graphics are key. Photos pique the writer’s interest and enhance the story. If we have a publicity lead about romantic getaways that include a horse-drawn sleigh ride, let us know about prints, high-resolution graphic files, and/or Internet pictures available. Don’t forget about permissions and credit lines, either!
